Open almost any standard witchcraft book and it tells you a waxing (growing) moon looks like a 'D', illuminated on the right side. Walk outside tonight in Brisbane or Adelaide and look up.
The waxing moon grows from the left. It forms a 'C'.
Because we are looking toward the equator from the southern half of the globe, our visual perspective of the moon is completely inverted compared to the northern hemisphere. The moon isn't doing anything differently, but our vantage point flips the geometry.
Why does this matter for spellcraft? Because sympathetic magic relies on visual cues and natural rhythms. If you cast a wealth-drawing or growth spell based on a northern book's visual cue (waiting for the right side to illuminate), you are accidentally casting during the waning, banishing tide down here.
The rule for the Southern Hemisphere is simple:
- Waxing (Growing): Illuminates from the LEFT (Looks like a C). Use for drawing in, building, and growth.
- Waning (Shrinking): Recedes from the RIGHT (Looks like a D). Use for banishing, cutting ties, and clearing.
Always trust the sky over a printed book.
